SHANGHAI, April 11th, The soccer match to-day between Hang- kong Portuguese and Shanghai Portu- guero "attracted a very large number of spectators.

Shanghai won by 3 goals to 2, after extra time. The game was contested. All played well, particularly very evenly the Shanghai goal-kerper, who male s number of brilliant saves. A

that on and after January 1st, 1916, every candidate for a' certifnate of competency of any grade as master or mate will be required to produce a certificate issued by the St. John Ambulance Association, the St. Andrew's Ambulance Association,- the St. Patrick's Amindance Association, the 'British Red Cross Society, the Lon dor County Council, the Glamorgan County Council, the Leith Nautical Col lege or other approved body or by, a medical officer of one of His Majesty's ships, to the effect that he has passed examination in first aid to the" injured:

The certificate must be an adult certi- “fiente," fe, obtained by the candidate when, aixteen years of age or mote, and the examination for it must have been passed not more than three years before the date of the examination for the certi- ficate of competency. Certificates issued by the St. John Ambulance 'Association more than three years before the examina- tion for a certificate of competency" will. however, be accepted, provided that, at the expiration of three years since its issue, the certificate has attached to it the Voucher or "Label" of the Asso- ciation certifying that the holder bas passed re-examination in first aid.

In order to enable candidates to qualify in Hongkong for this certificate the Assistant Commissioner of St. John Ambulance Brigade has arranged for lectures in first aid to be given at the Sailors' Home, 250, Des Voeux Road West, Hongkong, at 5.13 p.m. on the first and third Fridays of every mouth commenc ing on August 7th, und examinations will be held periodically. An inclusive lee of 96 will be charged for the lectures and examination

The lectures will be an arranged that if a candidate is unable to complete a course of consecutive lectures, he may attend whenever he is in port. Lectures by qualified surgeons on board merchant vessels will be accepted provided that the surgeon certifies that he has followed the syllabus of instruction laid down by the St. John Ambulance, Association.

An attendance card will be issued at for the initials of the lecturer or ship's the first lecture and must be produced

surgeon at each subsequent lecture. When a candidate's attendance card re cords. not less than five lectures be will be entitled to sit for an examination. A limited number of the general public will be allowed to attend these lectures and application should be made to Mr. E Halphs, Education Department, for per imission.
