The March Settlement which “隐箱 particularly heavy one was satisfactorily negotiated on the 24th instant. Since then there has been another smart ad- vance in prices and practically the whole market has strengthened, which is a clear indication of the easy state of the money market.
Cable advices from Shanghai shew that their market is also very active and with the exception of Cotton shares, many stocks have improved. Spat rubber is ap to 1/8, and shares are in strong demand. Banks-Hongkong and Shanghai Banks have ruled very steady with sales made at $1.230. The Loudon rate is £138 (middle).
Marine and Fire lasurances. Both Cantors and Unions are in demand at quotations. Yangiszes are also strong at $49), with no seliers in evidence. Under- writers have small buyers at $0. China Fires are unchanged" at: $195. A low Hongkong Fires are offering at $700,
Shipping-Hongkong. Canton & Macao Steamboats have firmed up to $37 but are offering at that rate. Numerous sales have been made between $331 and $37..."Star" Ferries have further strengthened, with business done up to $20 Douglas Steam- ships are dull at 858. Tugs and Lighters are offering at $4.70.
Refineries-Chipa Sugars weakened to #to, but there is some inclination to buy forward on this basis. Malabons have strengthened to $41
Oils and Mining-Langkats (combined) shew a further rise, with sales made to Shanghai at Tis. 20 and Tls. 201. The "Singles have improved to Tis. 12 and Explorations to Tis. 8. Shells are lower in Londoa, being quoted at 85/80.
Docks, Wharves and Godowns-Hong. kong & Whampoa Docks had a consider able set-back-in the early part of the week and were sold down to $116, but have since had a smurt recovery, and close at $197. Shanghai Docks have further in- proved to buying rate of Tis. 196 New Engineerings were sold at T 9.10/9.50. Kowloon Wharves shew a good advance on last week's price, being now in demand at $109 Hongkow Wharves have improved to Tls. 903.
Lands. Hotels and Buildings-Hong. kong Lands have been in-strong favour and have been bought up to $90. Hun phonys Estates continue in demand at $90! Shangbai Lands. according to latest advices from the North, are quoted at Tis. 25 huyers, ex dividend. Hong- Long Hotels are offering at $18 after sales. Realties bave buyers at $4.50.
Electric Companies-Hongkong Elec- tries have further strengthened and close with buyers at 367. China Lights shew a smart improvement to 335 closing easier. The old sizares huve buyers at 321 and the new (on which a further call of $1 has been paid) are quoted af: $18); Hongkong Tramways have been again in strong request and have advanced to $38.
Miscellaneous.-Green Island Cements bave been the medium of a large business both for cash and, forward. The market closes with buyers at $30. Dairy Farms ace in request and can be placed at 897), China Providents are being enquired for, especially the new shares, which have advanced to 29. The combined have been sold at 2383 and the old at 816, Hongkong Ropes are weak with sellers at 350. Peak Tramways are offering at $3 and the new have buyers at 38. Watsons bare sellers at on and the new are steady at $15. Constructions have again weakened and have sellers at 96.
