money has been due to differences be tween the Chinese Government and the distributing agenta. After the definite pronouncement of the Chinese Govern- ment of July 3rd last that the embargo payments upon German issues of Chinese loans had been removed, it is very regrettable that questions of a petty. or subsidiary, nature should have been allowed to interfere. For the sake of the bondholders, and of China's credit, it is imperative that steps be taken promptly to sad the delay,

We beg to Announce the Open-
ing of our NEW SHOWROOM
Replying to the foregoing, Dr. Wei Chong Chez, Secretary to the Chinese on GROUND FLOOR of CHINA "Legation, asked that it be made clear
that the cause of the delay in the pay. BUILDING, ment is not differences between the CENTRAL
Chinese Government and the distributing agents," but between the distributing agents themselves, as the money for the service of, the whole of the loan has already been paid by the Chinese Govern stent to the distributing agents.
The writer of City Notes in The.Prines observes that. Dr. Chen's statement will, not without reason, increase the impati ence of those bond-holders who are ati!! waiting to "eneash their coupons: It is necessary to remember that there are other German fasues of Chinese loans on which the fast maturing coupons have not been met-namely, the Ticatsia. Pakow Bailway Loan of 1908 and the Tientsin-Pukow Supplementary Loan. Eince the war a large proportion of the German issues of these loans has been transferred to this side, and holders are at a loss to understand why they should he discriminated against.
During the coming Session of Parlia- meut freight rates will be the chief sub- ject for consideration; the object will be to find a solution of the transport pro blem that will be fair to all classes in the Dominion of Canada.-Mr. Mackenzie King (Canadian Premier).
