THE HORTICULTURAL SHOW. ANNUAL EXHIBITION OF FLOWERS
AND VEGETABLES,
The annual flower and vegetable show of the Hongkong Horticultural Society was held yesterday afternion under the most auspicious circumstances at the Jolunteer Headquarters. The ine wea ther helped to add to the day's pleasure and to the excellent effecr of the gener colour scheme.
The exhibits were staged in. 1 large matshed erected "an, the Parade ground:; while the adjoining.drill hall was utilised for the arrangement of the table, derir. tions and display of aut,fawers.

The event attracted a large number of visitors, who expressed, in no stinted terms, their appreciation of the various exhibits. Early in the alternet, HE the Governor Edward Stubbs. K.C.M.G1), arrived, accompanied by Mr. Gaisford St. Lawrence (Private Secre tary) both of whom evinced much interest in the display. --
The entries were very much better than last year. Both individually and collee tively, and compared very, favourably with any previous exhibitions. The incrense "was most noticeable in entries that came from the Penk, and in the words of one `of the officials of the Society, it was the best show that they had ever held in Hongkong.
