several Cleinamen from purchasing. and now begs the for reduction; he certainly did not require land, and I agree with him he must have had both a latent diseased brain and an enlarged bump when applying for land, particularly when there is no probability of its resale.

These lots, like all other Marine lots, must be built upon; they are lower than the Queen's Road; but, if he wished to improve them, he might take pattern from his neighbours, who occupy similar ground to advantage.

Lot 138. Mr. Duddell might have occupied this lot to advantage, had he wished to do so; the upset price was L.31..4, the present rent L.38.13.2, which I do not think at all likely, as it abuts on Wellington Street, which Mr. Duddell appears to appreciate so much, and comprises upwards of a quarter of an acre.

Lots No 35 and 9, before alluded to, see I. Lot 219. I doubt very much ever, if the Government accede to his request, and grant the land at a low rent, it will be easier to let, the rent being 28.12.17.

Farm Lots 1 and 8. I think the Committee might refer to the remarks of Mr. Duddell applying to this land without the precincts of the town; if protection and facility of access, together with a very low rent, be given, I think it very likely several farms would be established, and planting and agriculture flourish, to the manifest benefit of the whole population; in fact, the road round the Island was made in a great degree having that for its object, as will be seen by reference to Sir John Davies' Despatch.

Inland Lot 339. I see no cause to recommend any reduction upon this, and cannot understand how he was necessitated to accept it, seeing the offer he made for the purchase himself.

It will be perceived that Mr. Duddell, without exception, asks for reduction on all his lots, 22 in number, but of the whole I can only see he has a shadow of a claim for such a reduction.
