EDINBURGH, January 14th.. The Rugby matches in Scotland result- ed pretty much as anticipated. Glasgow Academicals, Heriot's, West of Scotland, and Glasgow High School F. P.'s all won their matches comfortably. Any hopes which Edinburgh Wanderers may have had of spoiling the Glasgow Academicals" record, as they did that of Heriot's F.P.'s some weeks ago, were rudely shattered. The Glasgow mea outplayed them at every point, and rán ap 49 points to 3 the scores coming at regular intervals, and at no time did their opponents look like making a stand. La justice to the Wanderers it must be said that they a depleted side. The return match be- tween the old boys of Daniel Stewart's College and Glasgow High School ran on expected lines, the strong play of the College forwards being discounted by the crude attempts of their backs to act in concert. On the other hand, the School. outsides were invariably dangerous when they got under way. The game between Heriot's School F.P.'s and Edinburgh University was one of the fastest seen in Edinburgh this season, and there were many exchanges, in which hard knocks were given and taken with pluck and equanimity. Heriot's were in the lead by a goal and four tries to two tries, but this margin of superiority Batters them unduly as the students had territorially little the worst of the play. It was a four struggle between Hawick-who are easily leaders on the Borders-and Wat: sonians, a draw being a fair result.

KEEN FIGHTS IN THE LEAGUE -
The champions and leaders of the League, Rangers, lost a point to Morton at Greenock, and their closest rivals, Airdrieonians, lost a couple to Partick Thistle in Glasgow Rangers were fortu. nate to best Partick Thistle in a game that but for an accidental occurrence would have correctly ended in a defeat. Airdrieonians were fairly and aquarely beaten, and the closeness of the result by no means represented the extent of Partick Thistle's superiority: Partick Thistle are getting into better form, and promise well. The Hibernian's day with Falkirk puts them quite out of the fan- ning. The struggle to escape relegation is.exceptionally keed, and quite a num ber of clubs are filled with anxiety. The most interesting team in this part of the table is naturally the Queen's Park, the amateurs having many friends among all classes. They had a capital victory over Ayr United,-whom they sent down to the bottom of the table, but they have strong opponents to meet in the future, and their position is by no means sure. Dundee played bright, attractive football: against Kilmarnock in the first half, and the teams were level at the interval, but the Dundee defence, broke after the in- terval against the fast, open forward play of the "Kilmarnock vän, and the northern side were well beaten.

A SCOTTISH DOLF TROPAY.
One of the most interesting amateur tournaments of the winter season occurs at Rye, when the members of the Oxford and Cambridge Golfing Sodlety play for Four times in the President's Putter. succession has the putter been won by Bir Eracat Holderness, the amateur cham pion of 1929 and 1924, and many distiu- guished golfers again competed for a trophy around which there is quite an interesting little story. The wooden put ter belonged to the late Hugh Kirkaldy who won the Open Championship thirty.. four years ago. That was the last Open Championship to be decided over 86 holes, and Andrew Kirkcaldy, so the story goes might have readily won the cham pionship, but his brother Hugh was not in very good health, and the sterger-built- Andra, who is still happily with us. Law to it that he did not interfere with Hugh capturing the title. Before his death Hugh Kirkcaldy gave the pictter to Ma John Low, one of the founilers of the Oxford and Cambridge Golhog Society, and when president of the Society he. presented the putter, which is now a very treasured possession, and provides one of the best match, events in a dull period of golf. The struggle amongst the Varsity players, past and present, for the distinction of holding for one year the relic of other days is as keen almost as that for the championship.
