After all-
the charm that outshines all others, when the lips part in a smile, is the gleam of daintily polished teeth, a charm which Calvert's Tooth Powder can help so much to secure.
Again, besides polishing so brightly those teeth that show, this delightful dentifrice gives the thorough antiseptic cleansing to the crevices, which dental hygiene requires. Being free from grit it cannot scratch or injure the enamel of the teeth.

JUDGE'S ADVICE TO DOCTORS. VISITORS AT HOTELS.
"PATIENTS' SECRETS. SHOULD BE TOLD IN COURT. "The Medical Witness" was the sub ject of a discussion by a number of eminent legal and medical authorities at meeting of the Hunterian Society at the Cutlers' Hall, F.C..
Mr. Justice Horridge, who opened the discussion, said professional privilege in regard to giving evidence had been grant ed to solicitors because unless people could have conferences with their legal advisers in absolute condence the ma chinery of the courts could not go su There was also the privilege attaching to conversations between husbands and wives, which arese largely from the fact that in the past wives had no existence in law apart from their husbands.
As to the privilege sought by medical men, his view was that there was no possible ground on which it would be put Their evidence was required for the elucidation of truth and the administra tion of justice.
If this privilege were to be icorded to medical mes, on what grounds could it be withheid from nurses. faith-healers. and boresetters ?
+
The law was clearly laid down by Lord Mansfeld, who said that if a were voluntarily to reveal gurseon secrets he would be guilty of a breach of honour, but that to give that inform- tion is a court of justice would never be imputed to him as an indiscretion."
He advised medical men not to raise the question of privilege in the witness-box, to remember that they were assisting the administration of justice.
HINTS TO WITNESSES.

Sir Francis Newbolt, R.C., Official Referee, said medical experts were the odly experts who were really fandament ally honest. (Laughter.)
I
Whenever I have an expert witness. before me." he said, "I tell him, want you to give evidence as if you were paid by both sides. The actual bias which is produced in the human mind by getting into a fight and fighting on one side cannot easily be overcome."
Sir Bernard Spilsbury, hon. pathologist to the Home Office, expressed the opinion that evidence which was wilfully mislead
medical ng was rarely heard from witness.
DH. W. Carson, president of the society, said the word drunk" had no scientific meaning "whatever, and there- fore meant nothing to a doctor, who when he was asked for his opinion as to whether a man was drunk was reduced to the status of a layman
He recalled the observations of a man regarding a fellow roysterer when asked whether be WAS drunk: "He alot drunk.. I have wen ,him move. (Laughter.).
"LET YOUR CHILD CRY.' DOCTOR'S MAXIM FOR PARENTS.
If your child cries for anything he sees. let him cry; it will develop his |fungs."
Inis was one of the "maxima, tor parents" given by Dr. Charles S. Thom- son, Deptford's medical officer of health. ion lecture at the Institute of Hygiene.
His other hints included:-
Do not disturb any baby unnecessarily. As he gets older teach him to occupy himself, not to want constant attention from his mother.
Be gentle, yet firm; never shake children or box their ears.
