led me to alter my opinion; and I again repeat that I am now satisfied that so far as the Chinese Population is concerned, it is in no way affected by the present rate of Crown Rent, while, as already observed a few Pounds difference in the rent of a house,— and on this the Crown Rent must ultimately fall,— will not, in any judgment, be the cause of any Foreigner either remaining or quitting the Colony.

I have the honor to be,

With the highest respect,

Your Lordships',

Most Obedient Humble Servant,

Stamford
