THE BRUTAL MURDER IN SHANGHAL
DANISH LÄDY DONE TO DEATH. Of the brutal murder of Miss Maren Olesen, at her beme, 170, Bubbling Well, Rand, eable by our own Correspondent in Shanghai, the NC Daily New says:-The discovery was made by the only other foreign occupant of the house,

near the back door. He followed a trail of blood which led him to the bathroom. where he discovered the body of his land- lady terribly battered about the head und atms. The two servants, a cook-boy and a coolie, had disappeared..
The doctors who examined the body are of opinion that Miss Olesen must have been dead at least an hour before the discovery was made. There can he no other theory than that she was murdered; and murdered most brutally, for the body bears, terrible injuries, Miss Olesen. was Danish subject, believed to be about 13 years of age.

The servants in the house were both new, having arrived there the previous evening to replace the old servant, who was acting as cook-boy, and who, uppar eatly, was dismissed by her and left the house the previous evening. That is, on the same evening that, the new servants came in. This nian, also, has disappear- ed. though the police are making every effort to find him.
Miss Olesen was known to be üervous in the house, and had rang up the police on a number of occasions seeking police whistle. She had been in the Far East, for some years, and up till month ago was keeping 170, Bubbling Well Road, as a private hospital She gave this up, however, and for a time lived alone in the house, till she took in as hoarder the German who discovered her hody. Her lady has been removed to the Public Martuary to await an autopsy and inquest

The death of Miss Maren Olesen will many be sincerely regretted by her friends in Shanghai. Since coming to of 1920 Miss Shanghai in the autumpu Olesen, who was 11 registered nurse and skilled masseuse,, had associated herself with many movements for the welfare of the community and her kindly spirit and generous, disposition were well known. in She originally came to many cirules.

She was also a member of the Refugee Advisory Committee und during the absente from Shanghai of Mrs. Wil- helm Meyer varried on the work of the Russian Maternity Committee, supervis ing the preparing of layettes and furnish ing other assistance to needy Thassian mothers. Among other services ahe taugh First Aid classes among Chincse girls and could be always counted upon to support any good cause in so far as her bealth, which had not been good of late, allowed. She had no relatives in China fiar as is known, and her family, so resides in Denmark, although Miss Olesen had lived in Philadelphia for some time hefore coming to Shanghai-
