The local market has continued active.. and business has been transacted on a fairly large scale, principally in Wharves, Tramways and Cements, for the most part at higher prices, but at the close the market is distinctly easier owing to the near" approach of the December Settlement, and rates have generally woukcoed.
Banks-Hongkong and Shanghai Banks have been dealt in at $1,173, at which.
The rute they are in strong demand. London price has appreciated to £141.
Marine and Fire Insurances-Linions have experienced a farther sotback, the market falling-to #937, but closes with buyers at the rate. Hongkong Fires are aaquired for at $605 and China Fires at $150. Cantons at $730 and Yangtszes, at
42 are unchanged from last week.
Shipping-A spasmodic demand for "Star" Ferries raised the price to $125, but the market closed, weak with sellers. at $125 Hongkong, Canton and Macao Stearuboats have changed hands at 836 Union Waterboats are a turn higher at $183 Tugs and Lighters have receded to $1.60. Douglas Steamships are on offer at $30. Deferred Indo-Chinas can be placed at #190.
