WEMBLEY'S SUCCESS. THE PRINCE'S THANKS.
The Prince of Wales, us President of the British Empire E bibition, has sent to the Duke of Devonshire a letter in which he cordially thanks the Dominion authorities, the guarantors and workers, and all others who have co-operated in the organisation in "Our Great Imperial Enterprise." His Royal Highness holds that; apart from the Saanent results, the project a very fall measure ucbleved ita parpose. The text of the letter is as follows:
14
"At the close of the 1924 session of the British Empire Exhibition-Ive that teru rather than writing the close of the Exhibition, for I are the hope (which I know you and others entertain) that the great picture of the Empire, which has bean assembled at Wembley Park will be further used for the work of educating the peoples of the Empire in the greatness of their heritage-I wish to give my heartfelt thanks to all who have assisted in the organisation of great Imperial enterprise.
our
There have been some disappointments in regard to the Exhibition: the financial. results have not met early anticipations, but I think all will agree that in very full measure the Exhibition has attained its purpose of helping Imperial trade and education and of fostering a "family reeling' within the Empire. In particular, the people of the Home Country have had brought home to them the greatness of the Commonwealth of Naticna which has its centre in these islands. One may dare to hope, that satisfaction with this achieve- ment will serve to compensate in a measure for other disappointments.
"In a special measure our thanks are due to the guarantors who gave their credit for the construction of the Exhibitio Without their generous if the Exhibition conld never have been beld. I trust that. in the ultimate result, they will not be called upon to make an undue sacrifice va account of their patriotism.
The splendid manner in which the self- governing Dominions, Indis, the Colonies, the Protectorates, and Mandated Terri tories have assisted in the work of the Ex- bibition deserves our warmest gratitude, Thanks to them, we were able to present a complete and vivid picture of the Empire. In an equal measure the exhibitors of the United Kingdom deserve thanks.. Never before in the records of Exhibitions has there been, so fine a representation of arts, crafts, and industries as those shown in the Palace of Engineering, the Palace of Industry, and the Palace of Arts.
"I wish to express also my thanks to the members of the Gourd, to the administratire staff to the architects, engineers, surveyors, and to all the varicus workers connected with the Exhibition. Nor do I forget the very valuable work of the various advisory! with their committers which assisted
counsel and adrice, I should have liked to have written to all personally, but as that was impossible I ask you to convey to them, on my behalf, as president of the Exhibi tion, warta congratulations on the success of their devoted efforts EDWARD P., President."
PORTUGUESE DOMESTIC
"POLICY.
Parliament was opened as Lisbon ou November 4th. The Clerical Party pro- tested against what they declared to be the anti-religious policy of the Govern ment, whose supporters, however, re- fused to listen to the protests.
Senhor Rodrigues Gaspar, the Prime Minister, although unwell, read a long report on the work carried out during the interregnum. He stated that the collection of revenues had been greatly intensifield, and that Civil Service "salar- Les had been

the conversion of the proceeds into. sterling securities were being continued. Lasbe Mint had failed to produce more than 4,000,000 escudos [the value of the escudo is ts. 54d; the worth at the present rate of exchange is a little over ed.) of the new nickel coinage to at which rate the total mintage would take 14 years. There had been an' improvement in the exchange and the tendency was for it to remain steady. The improvement would, he admitted, industrial crisis for certain provoke an period, and he outlined a scheme for
Advances by helping industry mortgage. He also foreshadowed a great improvement in the next Budget and a number of other objectives of purely local interest.
00:
La spite of the optimistic tong of the Prime Minister's speech, the Nationalists, Monarchists, Clericals, and Radicals are counting on the scission of the Democratic Party, the Lefts, ander Senhor Domin- gues dos Santos, being dissatisfied with the present Government.

The Day of the Knight is Here !
IT IS THE
WILLYS KNIGHT
=
Simplest and most trouble-free type of motor ever invented.
It has the most disinctive and gracefully balanced body of any car
in the market.
1-The Willys-Knight ear is the four cylinder motored car that makes the six
unnecessary,
The Knight motor is stead principle. The valve two cylindrical'àleeves with rectangular slots or porta which when they register with each other and the porta in the block allow the ingress and egress of the gases without obruction. These wide open passages, particularly on the sihaust side, permet a more thorough cleaning of the burnt gases from the combustion chamber than any other type of mater, so that every ounce of energy srallabis ir
tilized from the explosive saixture, which gives us such tremendous power
از
2-It has no valve to grind and no carbon to clean.
The combustion chamber is completely surrounded by water and an alloy piston noted for its great hea! radiating qualities is used so neither the combustion chamber nor the head of the piston geta hot enough to bake the residue from the exposed gaass to form carbon while there is still enough heat maintained to handle the explosive mirture effectively.
-It is the only type of motor that Improves with use,
--
While carbon can not form in the combustion chamber, still a certain amount of the residue from the barat “ gases works up behind the wide scaling ring in the cylinder head and as this building in process obtains, it keeps pushing this sealing ring more tightly against the inner sleeve until it completely seals the compression chamber developing more power with every mile the moter is drawn.
-It is the only type of motor that wears in while other wears out.
All parts in the Willys-Knight car are sasembled with wide clearance between each other and oil is forced into these diearances under heavy pressure so that the entire assembly is lapping or wearing in on these heavy films of oil instead of wearing out. In other words, every be sting in this motor is an oil bearing instead of metal to metal Bearing which is necessary in the construction of a poppet valve motor in order to keep if quiet with subsequent quick
want and taimes.
It has eliminated one hundred and sixty two quick wearing parts necessary in the operation of a cylindered poppet valve motor. There are no hammering parts such as cams striking against push rods, push rods against valve stenis, or valve heads mapping back into their seats through the medium of hesry springs, etc.
