Ou these Sunday mornings in Advent we are thinking of the Four Last Things. We have thought of Death and Judgment and to-day our subject is Hell. Before we go any further let us try to be clear us to the meaning of the word. In the Bible there are three words which differ in meaning very much from each other, but which are all translated into English in the thorised Version of the Bible by the word hell, The first of these words is the Hebrew word Sheol, which means the grave or the state of the de parted generally. In the new Testament there are two words Hades and Ochenna, both of which are translated by the word hell" in the Authorised Version of the Bible, but in the Revised Version the first word is not translated, but is kept in English, while the second word is always translated-ifbell.
