HoxGkosa, December 12th. Since our last Report of the sth instant. there is a distinctly better tone and more. enquiry in the local market and this has resulted in the transaction of a fair volume of business, and the establishment of several important advances in values.
The market in the North is also firm, the principal feature being the derundil for Shanghai Docks. Hongkew Wharves and Shanghai Lands at higher prices.
Banks-Hongkong and Shanghai Banks have ruled steady throughout the week with sales made at #1 The London price has advanced to £140 (middle)
Marine and Fire Insurances-Unions have further declined with sales made down to $262. Hongkong Fires continue their upward movement and could be placed at $695. Cantons at #30, Chinn Fires at 8:80 and Yangtazes at $2 have all lapsed to nominal quotations.
Shipping Star Ferries have again firmed up and close with buyers at $1273. Hongkong. Canton and Macao Steam- boats have changed hands at #161/381. Uning Waterboats are in demand and can be placed at $18). Douglas Steam- ships are on offer at 39 and probably a lower, rate would be accepted. Delerred Indo-Chinas

Refineries.-China Sugars in the ab sence of business are ruling weak and are obtainable at 290 Malabons at #11 continue arglected.
Oils nod Mining-Langkats (com- bined) have been in strong demand and the price has jumped to Tis. 99. "Shells' are wanted at 35/-. Tronohs after having | advanced to 30/- have lapsed to a nominal quotation. Benguets at Ps. 2.90 and Kailans at 70/- have not moved.
Electric Companies.-Hongkong Train- ways continue in demand and have risen to a buying rate of 852. China Lights (combined) were negotiated in the begin ning of the week at $91, but have since spurted to 824. Hongkong Electrics are coquired for at $121.
Docks, Wharves and Godowas.-A good demand for Hongkong and Kowloon Wharvey has lifted the price steadily up to $212, and a fair amount of business has been done on this basis forward. Hong- kang and Whampoa Docks advanced during the week to 8153, but are slightly oasier at the close. Shanghai Docks a Tls. 10 mark a further rise. Hongkew Wharves are in good demand and have jumped to Tls. 205. New Engineerings. closed letter, at Tis. 7.60.
Lands, Hotels and Buildings.Hong- kong Leads advanced at $108 but have again weakened with the market closing at $100. Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels are slightly firmer and the old shares have been bought at $18 and the new at $181. Humphreys Estates at $21 and Prince Buildings at $150 are wanted at quota- tions. Shanghai Lands have been sold at Tis. 130. At the Extraordinary General Meeting of the Company, held on the 9th instant, in connection with the increase of Capital, an amendment to have the new shares issued at Tls. 75 instead of Tls. 90 was proposed and carried.
Cotton Mills.Exo Milis have fuctust- ed between Tls. 11.85 and Tls. 12. Shang- bai Cottons are enquired for at Tls. GO for the old and Tis. 33 for the new, and Orientals at Tis, 3.60.
Miscellaneous-Green Island Cements have beca the medium of a large busi ness and close in strong demand at 2251. China Providents (combined) have eased to $39, but at this rate there are buyers.
