TF beauty were the sole
reason for the all-matai barrel, Wahl Pen would be giving enormous extra-tvalue. But, aside from this, Wahữu all-metal barrel makes a sturdy, ordinarily indestruct- ible pen-gives greater ink capacity, with less frequent fillings. The metal thread allows the cap to be so tightened as to prevent leaks.
Wahl Pen in any design can be matched at the leading shops with a New Perfected Eversharp of the same design.

The natural man sometimes finds hincreased slightly over Japan, and the south November 25th at 17,90-Prostory has in- self wondering what mysterious power it is that orders the fashions in dancing. Who arranges the new evolutions, who are those that determine the manner in which we shall dance next year and the year after? Whose is the hidden hand which compelled our grandfathers and grandmothers to polkt What power con- vinced them that the waltz was not as naughty as they had supposed! By whose will and pleasure was it that the rising generation was condemned to fox trot Some light, yet not sufficient light, is thrown on this disquieting pro bient by the reports of what hap when the Dancers Circle dined. This institution, hitherto, perhaps, unknown to many An innocent fox-trotter, an organism moving darkly, yet potently, behind the scenes of life, was already dining for the eighteenth time. It has, a past. But one of the speakers took occasion to deny that it is dancing masters who rule Us. Dance teachers. said he, do not decide what movements should be performed, and, indeed, we have heard ladies in the bitterness of their bearts say the same thing with a certain vehemence, These professors, it is explained, merely exist to mould the dances desired by the public." Wo have, in fact, only ourselves to blame whether we are in the blues or the tango. But, surely, the gentleman protests too much.

Mr. Baps and Mr. Turvey drop are not the divinities that shape our ends, who is? How does it happen that the public, which never heard of a fox-trot till someone imported the infection. comes to desire it? The problem is eternal. Why did Prsed have to write verses sighing for one more quadrille, оде more quadrille, though twenty years before nobody knew how to dance such a thing, and thirty years after nearly everybody bad forgotten? We suspect that Mr. Turvesdrop and Mr. Baps have been much more potent than they pretend. But there was at the Dancers' Circle a discussion which show ed an alarming difference of opinion Among these Olympians. One laid down principle of absolute liberty A dancer in his philosophy is to be allowed to dance any tempo ha likes, provided that he causes no annoyance to others. But another protested that in the fox trot there must always, everywhere and for everybody, be so many beats to the minute, neither more nor less. To which it was answered that there must be in- dulgence for the desires of particular dancers and the nature of the particu lar tune. Thus in dancing, as in all the other arts, the principles of authority and liberty are at war. Mr. Turveydrop is for classic restraint, Mr. Baps for romantic adventure.. And we cannot guess how they will settle what sort of Fi dance wa are to take to next.-Daily' Telegraph.

OF SOUTHWARK ON
DIVORCE
The Bishop of Southwark delivered his second charge to the clergy of his dioceso in the cathedral on October 21st. He said that the war had increased moral problems. Marriages were often hastily contracted without sufficient acquaint anceship. Many of these proved Lin- happy, and from them a way of escape had been sought. So there had sprung up a vigorous criticism of the Christian view of marriage as life-long union, and a strong agitation for increased facilities for divorce..

General interest will be aroused by the claim of an American physician, Dr. J. T. Gwathmey, that he has discovered an anesthetic that will make childbirth safe and painless. His method is a varistion of the twilight sleep system. British medical authorities await further proofs before endorsing Dr. Gwathmey's claims: Modern fiction had done much, both to' Dr. J. T.
