COUNCIL.

(Continued from page 5.)

The view the Government is inclined to take with regard to junior officers in the service is that they know perfectly well the torms of their employment when they join the service, and it is certainly up to them to model their expenditure on ekonomical lines during their first years of service. I know it is a habit among Chinese to marry early, but in doing 80

I think they should be able to make game u certain family arrangement to cover period of their service..

MOTOR LAUNCH FOR AMBULANCE PURPOSES.

With regard to the remarks made by the Hon. Mr. Bird I have to say that with regard to the motor Inunch for the Medi- cal Department the question whether is can be used as an ambulance launch will be considered by the Principal Civil Med cal Officer. It is recognised that it is very necessary to have some means of conveying a case from a ship rapidly and I hope it will be possible to build a launch, possibly a little larger than it was intended, so as to be able to fit it 1s required.

As to the naming of streets, the hon. I have often noticed the aced myself. There is a very good practice in Canada of having the name of the street on the pavement. I do not know whether that. would do here. The Director of Public Works may be able to devise some other means of meeting the need.

The scheme for Port Development, IM P. Kaba believe, is practically ready now, and i did bope that we might have had it here to-day. It will be referred to the Cham- ber of Commerce and other bodies for consideration when it is ready. The hon. Mr M. P. Anderson member appeared to think that a larger bt. The Government is fully alive to the other considerations referred to by the hon. member. It is hoped that what- ever decisions may be arrived at, they will be for the best interests of the Colony.

the reprovisioning of military forces on Capt. & Mr. D. Fittes the Kowloon side. I am afraid that be- Mr&Mrs. FitzRoy trays rather a misapprehension of the Mr A. a matter on which I confess I have some Mr H B. Flower doubt. The whole question is: Arewers. Forsamida paying for the Garrison because we want Mr & Mrs H. That is a subject which has form edu subject of controversy for at least thirty years and I do not know the parties in the discussion have ever come to an Agreement.
