Hongkong, 13th August, 1850
His Excellency S. G. Bonham, Esquire,
Governor of Hongkong,
We are aware of the difficulty in which we are involved from the want of funds to complete the Cathedral Church of St. John in this city.
When we were addressing the Colonial Secretary on May 17th, 1849, our predecessors do not appear to have been aware of the original understanding and engagement which existed between Mr. M. Government and this Community; the facts, however, which have recently come to our knowledge on the subject induce us to trouble you again upon it, and we do so in the full persuasion that, after an attentive perusal of the papers which we shall lay before you, Your Excellency will now see the matter in the same light.
