A discussion arose as to whether purses should be reduced in Championship bouts when a man failed to make the weight. Kerrison said he did not think this was right at all.

Although financially we have notar. been able to add a great deal to our capital account, the working during that season has paid its way, and we have carried' forward a slightly larger amount than last year. The success of the later Tournaments, was largely due to the assistance given to the General and Box ing Committees by a small Sub-Com mittee, which received its powers from the General Committee, and was headed

by Mr. J. Clarke. This gentleman has had the able assistance of Messrs. Grim, mitt, Kerrison, Fisher, Ward, Kaight and Marriott

Mr. Minnett said that if a man. could not make the weight the fight was ob- viously off, but they should not monkey about with the rules. Rules ought to be band and fast. It was only too obvious that there could he no Championship fight, but all the same if they thought the context should be staged they could put up a purae slightly reduced in value.,

3. Harston pointed out that it was

obviously a question of contract, and the matter should be dealt with there and then.

Mr. Minnett proposed that the matter should be left to the Committee, and Mr. W. Logau seconded.

The Association is pleased to announce that it has definitely arranged a fight between C.P.O. Cartlidge and Matty Smith of Shanghai, to take place at the Theatre Royal on November 18th, for the Lightweight Championship of the" Colorty. We think this should prove to be one of the best fights seen in the Colony, Both men are well know and have been well tried. Whilst on the subject of this contest, I would like to tell you that the General Committee has décided that on that night members shall be admitted to the Ringside seats for the usual sum of $5, but that for non-men- bers the price of Ringside seats will be

PREMISES NOT. HABITABLE. Mr. Charles P. Anderson was called to give evidence in support of Mr. Potter's opening statement. He gave it as his opinion that the premises were not babit able and that the Sanitary Board would never allow anyone to use them as domes- tic tenements.

The owner of the premises, a Chinese woman, said she teased the premises to plaintiffs for ten years. She employed a mac named Food collect the rents for her. He did not give the defendante a lease and he could not do so without her consent

INCENTIVE, TO JOIN, There is a dual reason for this arrange- ment, the first is that we cannot pay for the purse money out of the proceeds of the gate unless we raise the price of the seats; and the second is, to provide, we hope, an incentive for people to join the Association. No words of mine are need. ed to say how desirable an Association of this nature is in a Colony like this, where the Services are so largely repre- sented, but no Association can live unless it receives adequate support. Five dol- lars a year is a very small subscription, and although usually the only benefit derived from it is that members can get "the first choice of seats, persons joining now will save their subscription on their tickets, as well as get a better chance of a seat. If gentlemen anxious to join will apply to the Hon.. Secretary for a nomination form, and return it to him endorsed by a proposer and seconder, he will see that they get their member. ship cards before the booking of the Tournament opeña. The document in question was handed to his Lordship by Mr. Alabaster who said that it was not certain whether it was supposed to be a lease or a memoran dum.

THE CANTON HORROR.

His Lordship thought the document was very much like the usual form of Chinese leane.

C

The case was adjourned to this more ing.

This act of human depravity was wit- neased by three "foreigners, according to a police report, and one of the foreigners was so disgusted that he went up to one. of the Merchaut Volunteers while he was engaged in cutting up the dead man, and the foreigner with his foot tried to push away the Merchant Volunteer and stop him from going on with the miserable business,

"The bystanders were horrified and speechless with fear and amazement." "

THE RECKONING.

Seven of the processionists were, shot and bayoneted.

Over a score were wounded by bullets and bayonots.
