I have to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatch No. 875 of the 6th of August last, reporting the circumstances under which, with the advice of your Council, you have commuted the sentences of death passed upon Chan Chunise, who had been convicted of murder in the Supreme Court of Hong Kong, to Transportation for life.
I have assenting approval of the course which, with reference to my Despatch, you have adopted in these matters.
