brief visit was a memorable occasion.
The Prince left Paddington by the 11.33 express train, upon which a saloon was reserved, and a crowd collected to wit- ness his departure. His Royal Highness was attended by Sir Godfrey Thomas, his principal private secretary. Hats werd raised and cheers were given as the Prince stepped from his motor-ear and walked to the saloon. He wore a light grey bounge suit and black bowler hat, and raised the latter repeatedly in, ac- knowledgment of the cheers of the by- standers. He was received on behalf of the railway company by M... J. Page, who, it was noticed, was wearing a band- some scarf pin, prescuteil to him by the Prince some time ago for courtesies in connection with journeys on the Great Western Railway. His Royal Highness was met at Fontypool-road by Lord Treo- wen, general director of the Eisteddfod, and Mr. Thomas Griffiths, the local mem- ber of Parliament and Treasurer of the Household. Throughout the drive from the railway station to Pontypool the road was thickly lined with people, and in Pontypool itself the Prince's car had to pass very slowly through cheering crowds which thronged around it.
Within Pontypool Park, where the Eisteddfod pavilion stands, members of the Gorsedd-the Fraternity of the Welsh Bards were gathered in a great circle in the sports ring to greet the Prince. In the midst of the circle stood the Arch- druid, his brows crowned with laurels, and the Keeper of the Ceremonial Sword. Members of the Gorsedd, too, wore their picturesque flowing robes of white and green. On one side of the ground was the great pavilion crowded with children, who cheerily hailed the Prince and then joined lustily in" singing the National Anthem. Opposita were gathered several thousands of ex-Service men. The Prince was greeted in Welsh by the Archdruid. | Standing barebeaded in the centre of the grent circle of bards, the Prince replied, He said:
It is with great satisfaction that I find, myself in the position of visiting for the first time the national gathering of the people of Wales the Eisteddfod. which for centuries past has contributed in a marked degree to the enlighten- ment of the Cymric race, In times when the colleges and universities were unknown it was the popular academy that served to give to our Welsh demo- eracy the high culture and the spiritual vision which are among its recognised characteristics.
-
As the titular head of the Principal- ity, I am proud to be welcomed by the head of the Bardic brotherhood, and delighted to be asked to share in the proceedings of the Eisteddfod of the Cymry. I am not unmindful of the fact that on this occasion we meet in the lovely land of Gwoot, and no one who knows the Eisteddfod and appreciates its services to literature can forget what we owe to the historic gatherings held in this part of the country in bygone days. I wish, the National Eisteddfod of 1024 the greatest possible success, and I thank you for your cor- dial welcome.

THE CEREMONY.
The Prince inspected the ex-Service men, and then went to the pavilion, where 15,000 people awaited him
Ac- companying him on the platform were members of the Gorsedd, and when the tremendous cheering bad died down a great choir of several hundred voices join- ed in singing "God bless the Prince of Wales" The initiation ceremony was im pressive. Addressing the Prince, the Archdraid said: "In order that you may follow in the footsteps of your father and grandfather, we initiate you now into the Bardic Circle."
When the Archdruid added the assur ance that if the Prince sent"a poem at any time to the Eisteddfod it would be duly and justly considered, his Boyal; Highness smiled merrily. The Archdruid then tied a green silk ribbon around the Prince's arm and invested him with the Bardie title of Iorwerth Dywysog-Ed ward Prince the same Bardie title as can- ferred on King Edward when Prince of Wales Lady Treowèn placed on his shoulders a beautiful green robe which ahe had herself presented, and the Prince himself fitted on his head the preen square coremonial cap. Standing in the full regalia of the Order, the Prince then, addressed the great crowd. He said:
I offer you my profound thanks for admitting me to the Circle and initiat- ing me into the mystery of the Gornedd of the Bards of the Inle of Britain. With the new name which you have conferred on me, I hope I may inherit some of the poetic spirit of the Welsh people who for centuries have delighted inheroic story and far descended nong, and I trust that I, like those 1. sée around me, may be stirred by "skil- ful rhyme and soaring music to con- template and to practise the higher things. (Loud cheers.)
The Royal Bard then performed his first act as a new member of the Gorsedd by investing the Crown Bard, the winner of the prize ode, Mr. Prosser Rhys, of Aberystwyth, the editor of the Welsh Banner. The ceremonial was quaint. The Crown Bard was seated on the throne, with the great Ceremonial Sword held above his head. Three times the Archdraid shouted in Welsh," Is there peace? and, thrice the great Radience responded by shouting "Peace." signify ing their approval of the selection. The Prince shook hands heartily with the vic tor, and placed upon bis head the ornate crown of green velvet and silver.". (Continued on next column.)

The Day of the Knight is Here !
IT IS THE
WILLYS KNIGHT
Simplest and most trouble-free type of motor ever invented.
It has the most distnctive and gracefully balanced body of any car
in the market.
-The Willys-Knight car is the four cylinder motored car that makes the six
unnecessary.
The Knight, motor is steam prinsiple. The valves are two cylindrical sleeves with rectangular slots or porte which when they register with each other and the ports in the block allow the ingress and egreas of the gases without abstraction. These wide open passages, particularly on the exhaust side, permit a more thorough cleaning of the. barnt gases from the combustion chamber than any other type of motor, so that every ounce of energy available in utilized from the explosive mixture, which gives us such tremendous power
2-It has no valve to grind and no carbon to clean,
The combustion chamber is completely surrounded by water and an alloy, pistón noted for its great has radiating qualities is used so neither, the combustion chamber nor the head of the piston geta het anonga ta, bake the seridue from the exposed gases to form carbon while there is still enough host maiztained to handle the explosiva mizines effectively.
IN
1-It is the only type of motor that improves with use.
While carbon can not form in the combustion chamber, still a certain amount of the residue from the burnt gases works up behind the wile sesling ring in the cylinder head and, as this building in procés olitains, it knepa pushing this sealing ring more tightly against the inner sleeve until it completely souls the compressina chambu developing moro power with every mile the motor is drawn.
4-It is the only type of motor that wears in while other wears ont.
All parts in the Willys-Knight car are assembled with wide clearance between each other and oil is forced" into these clearances under heavy pressure so that the entire sasembly is lapping or wearing in on these heary films of oil izatend of wearing out. In other words, every baaring in this motor is a mid bearing instead of a metal to 100ml bearing which is necessary in the construction of a poppek valve motor in order to keep it quiet, with wahasgnent quick wear and noise,
It has eliminate one hundred sad sixty two quick wearing parta necomary in the operation of a cylindered poppet valve motor, There are no bammering parts auch se came striking against push rods, push rode agêm valve stems, or valve heads snapping back into the seats through the medium of heavy springs, etc.
