Strachan has thus sustained a still further loss, and from pecuniary difficulties is unable to re-erect them. On Grey North, I found a letter from that gentleman awaiting my return from the country, a copy of which is herewith forwarded for Your Lordship's information...
Under all the circumstances I do not feel myself warranted in accepting the resumption of the Lease alluded to, without previously obtaining sanction of Your Lordship; but I beg to recommend Mr. Strachan's case to favourable consideration.
Should Mr. Strachan's prayer be granted, I am informed by the Surveyor General, that the ground, at present comprising Marine Lot N° 67 would, in all probability, if offered for sale in small allotments, bring at auction the upset price at which it has been fixed, and about equal to the sum that Mr. Strachan has lost.
