There is not much among the children's experiences that they can describe in this tone. Most of the extracts give an im- pression of profound weariness of all that they have had to go through. It in curious to note the complete absence of epithets in the descriptions of horrors and sufferings. They simply state facts, and the effect is all the more terrible and pathetic for that. My two brothers got killed. They shot daddy and let mother, H. LOUN Mr J. H. Collis starve. Mother came to us our of the Mrs. H. Cormack hospital and said "You are orphans Mrs. W. Darch now; your daddy is dead in the street I saw a list of the people who had been shot, and read daddy's name there, too. They came and fetched our uncle away, and later we found him a big hole with lots of others. When daddy was shot i realized what a revolution means. He was shot because he was a doctor."
WOMEN M.P.'S DISAGREE.
THIRD READING OF THE LEGITIMACY BILL
As is often the case at a Friday sitting, the House of Commons devoted its atten tion on June 27th to a question of deeply human interest, the legitimising of the children of unmarried parents.
It.has frequently been before one House of the other, with varying fortunes, and it has now once more" been sent to the Lords with a strong backing from the Commons:
After sitting until 4 a.m.. members were slow in turning up at il, and a prompt: motion for a count was nearly successful.
The Bill, which was originally intro duced by Colonel Campion, who has since become a Dominion Governor, came be fore the House for consideration a amended by the Standing Committee.. The operative clause of the Bill is con plex, and cannot easily be summarised.
It runs:--
bave
Where the parents of nu illegitimate person marry, or
married conc another, whether before or after the commencement of this Act, the man riage shall, if the father of the legit mate person wus or is at the date of the harriage domiciled in England ur Wales, render that person, if living, legitimate from the commencement of this Act, or from the date of the mar riage, which Jast happens; and such person is in this Act referred to as a
legitimated person."
It was noteworthy that most of the wonten nieinbers in the House took part and, indeed, made some of the most striking contributions towards the anal decision of the House,

PURITY OF FAMILY, LIS
A fundamental amendment was moved legitimation, from "a person whose father by Mr. Rawlinson, seeking to withhold or mother was married to a third person when the illegitimate person was born."
The women metubers were divided on the subject of the amendment, The Duchess of Atholl urged that no step should be taken which would effeourage divorce, and earnestly suggested that it would be as degrading to women as the promotion of polygamy to pass the Bill without fawlinson's proviso.
Mrs. Philipson was equally convinced that without the proviso the Bill would strike a serious blow at the purity of family life."
Miss Susan Lawrence was cloquent tud logical in defence of the Bill as it stood, Lady Astor suggested that to accept the claiming that working mothers desired it. proviso would znake it niore difficult for immoral people to do wrong.
The provian was rejected on a division by 196 to 65. The third reading of the Bill was secured by 177 to 13.
