Much comment is made in Parliament- ary circles on the housing proposals of . Wheatley, outined in his etreniar letter to local authorities. Criticism is mainly concerned with the vast expend ture of public money that will be involved in the payment of a subsidy of 213. 10. per bouse for a period of forty years. The State contribution is to be fixed at £9. and that of the local authorities at £4 108.
Members of the Unionist party who have expert knowledge of the housing problem estimate that under Mr. Wheth ley's proposals the capital sum required For 2,500,000 houses will be over £600,000,000, divided is follows:

She describes with great charm the domestic life of two high officials, Lo Ta J and Kung Tu Jen, both of the cultured gentlemen," and writes sympathetically of racial idiosyncrasies, quaint misunderstandings, and customs. Lady losie is the daughter of Professor Scothill, born in China. After her course at Newnham she came back, in 1912, with Mias Bowden Sm.h and opened a school in Peking for girls of the aristo cratic clases.
