garrison of Hongkong, I feel myself much reluctantly compelled to inform you will be necessary

to withdraw the Corps composing
the Naval Stores at West Point,
the 24th Inst., at 6 A.M., and as a similar
measure was adopted
adopted in 1848, under equally unfortunate circumstances, & purpose sen
sending in lieu of the Military Guard a Police Force
of
Sergeants and 12 for stables, who will, I imagine, afford full and complete protection to Her Majesty's Stores at that post, and in this hope I am the more sanguine from the fact that, upon the former
Captain Cronbridge, R. N. Senior Naval Officer.
