Nor does British-grown ten need any protection whatever, though this is quite nother matter. The India and Caylon Ten Trade, was never so prosperous and between it and the China Tea Trade there is really no competition, sincą China ten is a very highly specialized product and sold for the most part at far higher price. That this is the case is shown by the fact that ten importa into this country in 1993 were as follows: Indian 50 per cent.: Ceylon 28 per cent.; China 4.4 per cent.; Java 2.8 per cent
On the other hand, the export to China of British manufactured goods has assumed vast proportions, though un fortunately, in respect of textile goods the value is steadily falling, which is significant from the standpoint of Laaca shire. In 1913 it was 9.5 per cent. of our total textile exports: in 1920 it was 8.3 per cent., in 1801 it was 8.1 per cent., and in 1992, the last year on record, it was 7.3 per cent.
