RIGHTS OF A WIFE.
CAN EXCLUDE HUSBAND FROM HER HOUSE.
Whether a wife can exclude her bushatul from a house which is her separate pro- perty was discussed in the Court of Appeal last month on the appeal of "Alr. Arthur David Shipman from n judgment of Mr. Justice Bussil in the Chancery Division granting Mr Shipman an in- junction to restrain her husband from en- tering her house in Walthamstow, Essex.
Me. Shipman said that her husband's conduct rendered! it impossible for them to live together. She alleged that he took to drink. neglected a business started with her my, did put mupport her in any way, and had struck her.
Mr. A. R. Talone, for Mr. Shipman, said that Mr. Justice Russell had held that the injunction way necesary for the pre- tection of the wife's separate property.
Lord Justier Atkin That pises the question whether apart from any matri monial offence or misconduct, the judge restrained the husband from dokig that which it was the husband's duty to do namely, cohabit,
Mr. Taylour: There is no question of mi-condnet or divocie proevalligs-
Lori Justice Atkin: The kusinn! has not the convers right of, restraining his wife from entering upon his property i
Mr. Taxiour: No.
The Muster of the Rulis, giving jug ment, said a woman possessing separate property was entitled to ask the court's protection for that property against way-} body, including her husband.
Lori Justier Atkin eonenrred; but said he should himself he very polustust indeed to lay it down that a wife had precisely the same right to excline her husband that she would have to exclude any other per- son from her property, Here, however. there was evidence of drinkers and cruelty.
Lord Justice Sargant concurred, and the appeal was dismissed,
WHERE WOMEN EQUAL MEN. ABILITY TO DEAL WITH FIGURES.
Interesting views on the comparative abilities of men and women are "fail" by Mr. Barbara Wootton, the 27-years-of- age Labour Party official who has just been appoirtel a member of the committee which is to inquire into the National Debt and the effect of taxation on industry.
It is imposible to well in the present rough and furable conditions of life how for women are as able as inen." -he said recently.
Woren are entering into certain sect- pations and ure showing that they are able to do work which man has don hitherto. They may perhaps show them- selves to be qualified for other work stil.
My experiones is that there is an difference between men and women in their ability to deal with figures. I have lectured so both working men and women on economic, and I have found no difer- ence at all between them.
"I think the ability to deal with for ancial matters is largely n matter of train-
tre, Wootton is the daughter of the late Dr. James Adam, the senar taler at En manuel College, Canitridge. Both her father and mother were classical tutors, and for three years Mr. Mootton studiel classics at Girten, Cambridge,

A bride-to-be who recently applied at a London register affic for a licence to i marry in Japan was told that three weeks notice must hire be given in this country. She told the registrar that if she had to wait three weeks she could not reach Japan at the time arranged.

The brid to-be could the sail on the dare arranger. and on arrival would find the authority waiting for her, as the voyage takes about five weeks.

months ago, when we advertised young Horatio's birth, we received from various firms 13 sample cakes of baby soap, a tins of baby powder, 19 down of castor oil, and a whole dose of useful samples. After three months Horatio's stock is running low; so we've invested a few bob in the hope of getting another pound's worth of samples. A contributor to The Sun (Melbourne).
