During the evening a very successful smoking concert took place. Some of the artistes mentioned in the Daily Press on Frithay last were usable, unfortunately, to appear, but with the talent .nt band Mr. R. C. Witchell, the hon. secretary of the V.R.C., was able to keep things merrily on the move until midnight.

Dr. Fenton was an infatigable accom panist, and also gave a couple of solo, pianoforte pieces; "The Quavers"

Messrs. Sperry, Duncan, Sharma, Mason and Stewart) proved first-rate instrumentalists; Mr. C. Edgcumbe ren. dered some delightfu! Irish numbers, in- "Where the Shannon River clading

and "Asthore"; Mr. Claud Earnshaw, with "Out of Sympathy" and Mr. Gill, with "Firing Butter

"and "Saints and Sinners" were capable monologists: Mr. S. Evans, and his pupil, Mr. H. Spoors gave an interesting hy sical culture display, the "Hawaiian Trio gave sclcetions Mr. V. F. Vicarice rendered Vieniawsky's Polish dance, "Kuyawiak; Mr. R. C. Wilson sang "Districts". Mr. T. Os Patterson ably gave some old favourites including "My Old Shaka "and" The Trumpeter"; and Mr. R. C. Witchell rendered a pretty, and plaintive piece called "Sometimes I seem to hear you." Most of the artistes gave repeat numbers. It was altogether a suc cessful evening, terminating with the "Crowd-song"
