If anyone has a doubt as to the attitude of the Labour Ministers towards exist ing social customs he (or she) would do well to read the report of Mr. J. H. Thomas's speech at the Australia Day luncheon in London on January 19th. He paid an eloquent tribute to the King and the Prince of Wales, mentioning that they were the least disturbed of any people in the country "at the prospect of the accession of the Labour party to power. A GOOD STORY.

The best story told as yet about the change of Gorerament relates to Mr. Thomas when he went to the Colonial Office to take up his duties as Colonial Secretary. He was met xt, the entrance by one of the door, porters who did not know him and asked his business. "I'm not quite sure," replied M. Thomas. "I want the Colonial Office." "Yes, but whom do you want to sec queried the mad. "I want to see the office," Mr. Thomas answered; and thes, thinking be bad better go straight to the point, ha said: "I am the Colonial Secretary." The porter looked at him, and then, tura- ing to another porter standing near, ho remarked, "Oh another shell-shock patient." That was how the new Minis ter arrived!
