With reference to Enclosure No. 3 in my Despatch No.32 of the 22nd Instant., I have the honor to report to Your Lordship that the appointments of another Chinese clerk to the Chief Magistrate's Office became necessary in consequence of the additional business entailed on that Department by the formation of the Court of Petty Sessions, and I accordingly appointed Wong-shing to the situation on a salary of £100 per annum.

Your Lordship will be aware that the Petty Court has now jurisdiction in Civil Suits where the amount in dispute:
