There were eleven races, in most of whith were seen some of the best Shang- hai ponies and jockeys, and on the whole the Shanghai ponies did very well The most successful stable owner, however, was Mr. Dorasty, who secured three firsts during the day's racing. His first success was in the third race for the Vic "toria Stakes which he won with that fine old pony Spotted Sand. He followed up his stress in the next race, the fourth- the Valley Stakes-Ring Canute, well ridden by Mr. Hill, winning a fine race. In the race for the Garrison Cup, which caused quite a sensation, King Alfred brought him his third victory. A very enrious incident happened in this race. The cash' sweep was paid out on the results of the race, Mr. Bagram's Gymp, 139 lig but the pari matuel dividend was with- held.
