PIANOFORTE RECITAL.
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 19TH, 1924.
PROFESSOR DANENBERGS PUPILS! AT THE CITY, HALL.
Professor Danenburg's pupils gave their tenth annual pianoforte recital at the City Hal! last evening, and the unstinted up- | plause with which the large am apprecia- tive audience present rewarded the various items showed that the programme was thoroughly enjoyed. "
The outstanding" feature of the even ing's entertainment was the surprisingly capable manner
in which Master Eanil Dauenberg, the six-year-old son of the organiser of the recital, played several pieces.. This youthful prodigy made his debit before Hongkong music, lovers just wbout a year ago. Since then Master Emil's technique and power over the instrument have improved considerably. In all be played five pieces, ous of which was given in response to an encore tight little piece-perhaps the best of the live. Two of his pieces were accom panied by his father on a second piano. They were marvellous performances for so young a child. The public will have the pleasure of hearing Master Emil' again in the very near future, for next month he is to give his first public recital, which is to be held order the patronage of Lady Stubbs,
The other pupils acquitted thesuselves in such a manner that reflected the great- est eredit on Professor Danenberg,
The recital was opened with Varin- tions of a Theme of Beethoven, which was played with coarpions skill and ability by Mrs. A. W da Roza, arcon panied on a second piano by Professor Danenberg. The audience was unstinted" in its applause. Miss Caroline Braga fol fowed with two pieces with all the sym- pathy they demanded. Mise Marie Machado Alves and Miss Edith da Rocha also con- tributed two pieces Miss Rosario taste- fully rendered three solos by Beringer, W. G. Smith and Victor Staufs, and these were followed by one of the most pleasing mybers on the lengthy programme-two pieces from Leschetzky and Macdowell by Miss Lina da Rocha, Three pieces by Miss Clara Wong brought the first half of the programme to a close. The second half opened with a piece for two pianos from Schutt. Miss Winifred Robinson, accompanied by Professer Danenbers giving a very correct interpretation of Impromptu Rococo. Miss Marie de

NEW HOTEL PROJECT? SCHEMES FOR USE OF RELEASED
MILITARY LANDS.
Despise the fact that the Hongkong Legislature has not yet decided whether it will acerpt the Arbitration Award of Sir John Oakley in regard to the Military Landa in Victoria, a number of syndicates comprising well known local European and Chinese business mecare, it is understood, already formulating schemes as the uses to which portions of these lands may be profitably put. Ons scheme, pro- vided the required land can be obtained around the rates indicated in the Hon. Mr. Fletcher's statement at the last meer. ing of the Legislative Council, has for its object the erection of a huge hotel on the site cf, or near, Murray Barracks. Plans, of course, are in their initial stages, but is believed that the hotel in question would be run up within eighteen months, would be modelled on the most up-to-data American buildings of this description, and would includ a ground floor ranze: of service shops and saloons such as would meet most of the needs of comparatively well-to-do hotel residents and frequenters clothing, and, haberdashery shop, hair- Ireasing and manicure parlours, an open- frontal lounge on the café principle, mrdel tea-shop, etc.

It is also said that one of our foremost Clubs intends to attempt to get hold of a lair stretch of the Military Lande in order to build a substantial Club-house and necessary offices, Whether the author- ties would consider such a proposition, in view of their call for the Military Lands for development purposes, rg mains to be seen.
