A YEAR'S PROGRESS.
The great feature of English Froo masonry during the past year has been its continued prosperity and marked progression. During the past year 114: new lodges have been created. This.com. pares favourably with the average of recent years.. century. The number of lodges had increased from eighteen to forty-three, the number of Freemasons from 680 to 2,529, and the taber of votes which the Province beld for the three Royal Masonic Institutions
from 1,658 to 12,428.
Nottinghamshire has had seven Pro- vincial Grand Masters since its formation as a Province in 1763, as follows: Thomas Boothby Parkyns, afterwards first Lord -Rancliffe (who was also bead of Leicester- shire and Derbyshire), appointed in 1783; Admiral Sir John Borlase Warren, B., 1802; Colonel Thomas Wildman, 1823; the fifth Duke of Newcastle, 1800, the sixth Duke of Newcastle, 1885; the tenth, Duko of St. Albans, 1877; and the present Duke. af Portland, 1608. His Grace is now one, of the leaders among the Provincial) Grand Masters of England, having but seven above him in point of seniority, those being. Sir Frederica 'Halsey. Bt., Chief of Hertfordshire; Sir. Offley Wake man, Bt. Shropshire Lord Ampthill, Bedfordshire; Lord George Humilton, Middlesex Earl of Dartmouth, Stafford- ahire Lord Henry Cavendish-Bentinck, Cumberland and Westmorland; and Earl of Yarborough, Lincolnshire.
Preceptories and members of the Great Priory of the United Religious and Mili- tary Orders of the Temple and of, St. John of Jerusalem, Palestine, Ehodca, and Malta, in England and Wales, and the Dependencies. thereof, have contributed the sum of £1,820 17% to the fund raised! by the Order of St. John of Jerusalem in England for the restoration, of the Ophthalmic Hospital in Jerusalem, and of this a sum of $1,000 has been set. aside permanently to ondow a bed in that hospital. A suitable Jascription will be placed over the bed, thus associating the Great Priory with, the beneficent work of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem in the Holy City.
