Upon the retirement of Sir Charles Harris on January 3rd, the temporary Arrangement whereby there have been two joint secretaries at the War Office will terminate and the duties of the two secre- taries will be amalgamated under the title of Permanent Under Secretary of State for War to which Sir Herbert Creedy will be appointed, retaining his sent on the Army Council. Sir Herbert Creedy, K.C.B., has had a long and distinguished career at the War Office and has been Private Secretary to sucesive Secretaries of State for War (Col. Soely, Mr. Asquith

The unqualified success of the Air Ministry's experiment for expanding the Reserve of Air Force officers by the ad.; mission of qualified ex-ofleers has inspir ed the Ministry to extend the scheme, and it now appeak for a further 200 re- cruits. Four civil schools have already established in London, Bristol, Coventry and Glasgow. Another two are opening in the North-West England and Yorkshire where at first seaplane traiding will be undertake.

SCHEME TO EXHIBIT BRITISH MANUFACTURES.
LONDON, December 29th. The reasons for the failure of a scheme? to send a ship round the world to exhibiti British manufactures was revealed at a meeting of the creditors of the British World Trade Expeditions, Ltd., to day.
The Ocial Receiver said the Company. was incorporated in March, 1922, with & nominal capital of £95,000, afterwards increased to £75,000. According to the Company's books the only Director who did without any remuneration was Mr. Ben Tillet, M.P., who was acting as chair-| man at the date of the winding up.
The promoters stated in November, 1921, they entered into partnership to acquire

The statement of affairs showed that the liabilities were £103,000 and the assets £5,000, a total deficiency of £98,633. The shareholders have decided to leave the liquidation in the hands of the Official Receiver, it being stated that only from the advantageous sale of the Orontes could the creditors anticipate any dividend.
