However, on the run of the game the sailors well deserve their win and they will now meet the R.GA. in the next round of the shield competition."
The Club had their full aide cut and had several chances to score, but their forwards gave a very poor exhibition of the game. The sailors played a real cup tie game, and after scoring the first goal never looked back and were winners all the way. The first goal came after about eight minutes play. Bishop, who was laying well up the feld, was beaten by Bunton who went on and centered. Grice, meeting the ball after Ferrard fail ed to clear, put it into the net, thereby opening the score for the axilors.
After this success the sailors, for a time, were willing to play a defensive game and Weedon was often teen among the backs. The home forwards could not settle to combination and although several wing passes were made the inside forwards were slow and the sailors de- fence cleared. From the restart the Club tried to pull the game round, but the sailors played good defensive game, Pettinger and Lanning being in good form. After the Club inside forwards had missed, the Sailors took up the attack and Butchin son cleared from a shot by Bunton. Begg running back for the ball handled well out and the sailors were awarded a free kick. Lanning took a. pot shot at goal and Hutchinson let the hall pass over his head into the net. The sailors, now lead- ing by two goals, were content to take things easy and kick to touch when the Club got down. The standard of play was very poor, little dash being shown by either team. The final whistle sound- ed leaving the Titánia worthy winners by two goals to nil.
