PARIS FASHION "NOTES.
(FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT, ISABEL, RAMSAY.Į
PARIS, December 3rd "Waterproof" is no longer a name to conjure up visions of heavy, cumbersome sickly odour of garments emitting a guttapercha, which continual rains compel long suffering humanity to wear. Water proof" na "now be a mixture of imper meable substance and arepe de Chine, crepe Marocain, or taffetag silk, so light. and dainty in appearance that it is difficult to distinguish the water-proof fabric from the unadulterated silk one. Such material is being made up into coats in pre smart wet-weather suits and, paration for Winter.
A wrap-over cont of pari-taffetas looks particularly well un n wat day, in a street full of more or less bedraggled-looking people. Should the folderer skirt fly back, a pretty yellow lining is revealed, that contributes considerably to the gay noto of the ensemble. This note again shows to advantage as a lining to the abawi, collar and cuffs of the sleeves, A smart little cloche hat can be made ta match from the same material
In black, pari-chine looks well, espe cially for a costume showing a coat-collar trimmed with a deep band of grey fur. As a general rule, it is better för dresses and coats of "pari" materials to be made as plain and business-like na poss ible; otherwise, if too complicated a cut! or too much trimming is introduced, the effect is apt to be banal,
Many of the winter hats are being mande of this material in all shapes and to suit! all types. There is the sou'wester model, complete even to the detail of chin strap There is also a new kind of leather which is covered with a dressing that renders it water-proof. and this, too, is being made up extensively into short jackets and hats of all kinds to match. A leather that reminds one of the sort usually seen bovering library chairs is being mannfne tured in a host of becoming shades, and this is being made up into smart conts with hats to match.
Green is the season's chosen colour, and, For after this, chesnut rod or browa, those who prefer cloth conts, no matter what the weather, there are loose water- proof linings which are made to lip in and out of coats, whether they be long or short.

A quaint centre-piece for a dining-table, or ornament for a sitting-room, is a bowl of bronze af opaque gins, bordered with gilt, in the middle of which a tiny foun tain spurts up a bubbling jet of water. More elaborate ornaments of this type are fitted with figures. It is an expensive bauble, but one that looks very effective in a large room.
3
It is more che now-a-days to have your sitting room walls covered with a pinterial than with a wall paper, no matter, how costly this latter may be. Toile de Jour, that charming Eighteenth century pre- toone, in mauve, blue or red in antique faded tones, is one of the most charming materials yet invented for mich purpose: but a room bang with this necessarily antique furniture to respond and complete the old-world. One of the most inexpensive methods is to employ stencilled canvas or hesaian, and then, of course, there is the whole gamut of wonderful brocades and whom satins to be chosen by" those th mones is no object.

The new crochet for curtaing, table covers, cushions, etc., is made of sailor's string and it is so coarse that one has to have a large needle in order to work it, It has advantages in that it is very quickly worked and looks most effective in a room.
The old-fashinged antimacassar is now a modern contrivance of beauty which most women add as a head-pieco to their armchairs to prevent them from becoming Boiled just at this spot. Lace, or crochet, or linen inlet with motifs to filet look dainty and stand any amount of wear.
A new craze for very light- furniture is making itself, felt lately, judging by the latest models on show at the big designers. Black pear wood is being used a lot as a border to grey sycamore highly polished and wonderfully grained, and the effect is exquisite if costly! Lacquered woods in any "quantity is an- other feature of modern furniture, this form of treating wood not being confined by any means to the colour red. Beauti ful examples may be seen in scarlet, tur- quoise blue, Chinese yellow and black and gold. Red is chosen mostly for a dining- room or study; the other shades for a boudoir er salon.
Martine is showing the most original of "desks. It is made of polished grey maple; down cach side is a set of drawen fitted with handles, the middle space also being filled in with what appears to be drawers, but which proves, on being
