July passed on the 28th Ultimo I have appointed Mr. Mitchell (who is a Justice of the Peace) to perform the duties of Sheriff and Assistant Magistrate during Mr. Holden's absences, on half Salary of the Situation (namely, £350 per annum) subject of course to Your Lordship's approval.
Mr. Mitchell has a collegial education, and appears to me fitted for the duties of the offices. He has derived experience in the Magistrate's Court, and that of the Petty Sessions, where he has frequently attended in his capacity of a Justice of the Peace,
and in event of Mr. Hillier being absent on leave or suffering from sickness, will be able to conduct the duties of the higher office which always requires to be provided with an Assistant to guard against any Contingency.
