Twelve Years at the Kaiser' Court,"" a book by Count Robert Zedlitz Trutzch Jer, late Marshall at the Kaiser's Court, is a merciless exposure of the ex-Kaiser. The author declares the Kaiser's visit to Tangier came about eaus von Bulos had pot the nerve to tell his master that the visit would lead to a diplomatic acident. The Kaiser never had the habit of treating serious matters seriously. Thus when General von Lyck er was appointed Chief of the Military Cabiret the Kaiser said to him, "Now, no dry reports but from time to time just a little amusing story. The Kaiser had a great appetite for stories with a smoking room flavour and clowns chtained good posts at Court, Prince Friedrich Leopold, the Kaker's cousin, was very vain and spent hours dressing. At a ro view he fainted and his A.D. C. could not succeed in unbuttoning his tanje in grder to revive him because the Prince was kewen into his uniform.

It was natural that part at least of the inspiration for such a design must be obtained by harking back to the meinat Greeks. The Parthenon would have been in the background of any architect's mind under similar circumstances, though I had to remember that Greek mouldings made by artists for a sunny climate might be meaningless here under our veiled sun and in our moist atmosphere.

The Cenotaph, then, has a trace of Greek inflaence, in that it is all for itself and of itself. Worls are not my mediam, but perhaps I can convey part of my meaning by saying that no single stone could be taken from the mopunens and placed in another wall. Each part belongs absolutely to the whole, and "the whole belongs to each park,
After the design had formed itself. extensive and very involved mathematical calculations were demanded. It needed a considerable effort to diminate, vertical lines, and to place all the horizontal sur- faces in parallel spheres. In this case, as happens so often, the taking of great pains was necessary to evolve simplicity,
"The architectural result-leaves no room for verbal expression. It could input into figures, but not, words-n niethed which, I have always maintained, is that of Nature, as it was of the Greeks.
The mathematical system, inherent in the Cenotaph is applicable to war stones in cemeteries, but not, however, to largel buildings. I have tried to apply it to more comprehensive structure, but the labour costs were prohibitive. “
OUTPUT OF FORD CARS.
The monumental position of Mr. Henry Ford manufacturer of automobiles wits demonstrated, says a New York correspondent writing on November 3rd, when it became known that he had given orders to various mausfacturers from whom he buys tyre, etc., to "speed up. their production in order to enable him to produce some · 10,000 cars daily by February, 1924.
Mr. Ford's factories are now producing about 7,500 automobiles a day, and it is catimated that the total production for the year, 1923, will be about 2,000,000; Mr. Ford launched recently in conjunc- tion with some banks a scheme by which on the bagment of fre_dollars, to para chaser can receive a motor-car, and make future payments every week to the banks concerned. It is considered likely that this bag caused a tremendous increase in the demand for cars, rendering it neces dnry for Mr. Ford to augment produc tion. It has been estimated that. Mr. Ford's profit, amount to ninety dollars on each automobile. No announcement has been made on the subject of the lower- ing of the price of Ford cars.
