H.K.C.C. lar XI. ». UNIVERSITY (L.). The 8th ordinary general meeting of the China Light and Power Company The following team will represent the their own (1919), Ltd., was held at the offices of R.K.C.C. on Saturday on

ground the University (L.) at 9.15 the General Managers (Messrs. Shewan, sharp-T. E Pearce (capt.), A. A Tomes and Co.) yesterday morning, Mr. Claxton, E. J. R. Mitchell, R. E A. W. Adamson presided, and "there were Webster, H. Owen Hughes, Q. R. More, also present: Mrs & W. Barton, A. H. G. Lammert, A. Y. T. Dean, E. G. England, M. M. Maas and J. P. Compton, C. A. da Roza, and Mr. Leo

Bridger. Hysan (Consulting Committee), Mr. S. F. Chubb (Secretary), and the following shareholders: Messrs. R. G. Showan, H. II. Tayler, A. L. Shields, A. A. Botelho, Tong Hok-ting, Tse Taan-tai, J. Topping, F. Farrant, F. J. Tavares, J. H. Donnit house and A. A. Cordeiro

The CHAIRMAN said: Gentlemen,-The statement of accounts for the twelve months ending the 30th September, 1923, has been in your hands for some days and, following the usual procedure, I will, with your permission, take them as.. read. The income for the period cover. ed by the accounts is $300,152.21 as com- pared with 9260,637.92 for the previous twelve months which, I think, you will agree is very satisfactory. The balance at credit of profit and loss account is $254,791.79 and we propose to deal with this sum by placing $25,000.00 to good. our will thus closing this account in books, paying a dividend of 60 cents on the old shares, and 10 cents on the new absorbing $199,972.00 and carrying for- ward $29,749.79. is perhaps uzņeces- sary to point out that the io cents on the new shares is the proportion due them Irom the date upen which the instalments on these shares were paid.

In reviewing the dividend it has to be borne in mind that the capital of the Company has been doubled since we last met. Our business. I am glad to say, continues to grow steadily, and though I cannot hold out the hope that the in- crease in the current twelve months will be as large as in the period under review, I am confident that when this meeting is held next year the shareholders. will have Do cause for complaint.

It is unnecessary to draw the attention of local shareholders to the rapid deve- lopment of Kowloon, but non-residents interested in our Company will doubtless be glad to learn that this development is likely to continue for a good many years to coine. The future calls for light and power have our constant attention and full provision has been, and will continue to be made for all demands that are likely to be made upon us. I now pro- pose, the adoption of the report and

accounts.

Mr. A. A. BOTELHO seconded and the motion was carried unanimously.
