There is another uase which indientes that the present Chinese watrimonial customs are very harmful to the young generation of China. The chief of the RUSSO-ASIATIC BANK. middle school at Chingchowfu, Shan- tung, reports that on the night of the 25th November, Wong Teh-hsu, a student twenty-two years old. was found dead on the school premises, his body being fear- fully mutilated. Two autograph letters | were in the pocket of the deceased. Onë was addressed to the chief of the school; the other to his wife. From the latter it appears that the young man was so dis- satisfied with his wife, that he determined to end his own miserable existence, bel burning himself with kerosine oil and then by hanging. The letter addresses to the deceased man's wife reads:
"I was married to you by order of my late parents without my previous consent or approval, so that our mar ried life has been one of misery and quarrel, without a single day's "hap piness during the last four years. Dur- ing the period of four years. I have been repeatedly insulted and ill-treated by you, even in the presence of our relatives and friends, and as I have no intention to drag along my miserable life with you, I hereby divorce you with my own autograph letter." The letter addressed to, the chief of the high school said:

FOREIGN SALT IMPORTS INTO CHINA.
PROPOSED PROHIBITION.
Of late the markets everywhere, says the Asiatic News Agency, have been full of foreign salt, and even Chinese prefer lo use it. On the 30th of November the Central Salt Administration held a meet- ing to discuss the situation. It was point. ed out that the sale of foreign salt from other countriey was in contravention of the Commercial Treaties between China nid foreign Powers and highly injurious to the interest of the holders of the Lands of the Reganization Loan in 1013.
