The Hon. Mr. Fletcher was the person and everywhere, and dus mainly to his fication of energy, He was bere, there activities, assisted by the Rev. G. S. Upsdell, the various events were carried out with commendable promptitude. Then were all kinds of races for the young folk who showed great kocaness and true sporting instincts In the mixed tug of war for boys and girls, the weaker x pulled like Trojans. The grown-ups also had a show for there was a race for gentlemen which attracted a The Hon. Mr. Fletcher's large entry. handicapping in this event was perfect, for Mr. E. Griffin well to the front at the commencement, came in a good first and received na a prize a bottle of "the and the sight of a dozen gentlemen of all very heat." The race was very amustug sorte and sizes and of all ages careering twice round the course provoked a good deal of amusement amongst the ladies

There is a school of men whom the police suspret as having been in league with the pirates of the War Ning but they exanct be found. They are known? as a fan-tan school, which operated on the visael and was doing d'roaringitrado in illegal gambling. When the resol i turned to Hongkong after being pirated the members of this school disappeared. Diretly the ship touched the wharf at Hongkang they were ashore and away, and they have not been seen or heard at since. And now there is said to be a certain amount of exilence to show that they wern in league with the pirates se

One of the main questions which is nt present puzzling the police is how far the crew were implicated in Herary According to some they worked insclose, co-operation with the pirates whilst the actions of the compradors staff are said to be not above suspicion; others aver that there was no co-operation between pirates and crew. It is, however, now almost as established fact that at least pirates crempied zaling in the crew's quarters while they were waiting to comand the youngstacs. mence the attack on the vessel. Members; of the crew at first devied most empha tically that the pirates occupied cabins in their quarters, but when they were faced with practically conclusivo proof they more or less admitted that they did let their cabins to a number of passengers for the voyage, but denied all knowledge that these pastengergamers piratel

The next point is if this is so should not the crew be punished for disobedience of the Regulations. Their gaarters are on the top deck behind the grill and, according to the Regulations, they are strictly forbidden to have any passengers in their quarters. From what could bo gathered by a representative of this paper who visited the ship yesterday, it appears to have been castomary for the crew to let out their quarters to pass gery who were prepared to pay for them

he proceeds of this illegal letting atated to have been divided in the past between the compradore's staff and the crow; it is even suggested that the Indian guards had a share in the spoil. Then, aguin, as if to bear out the complicity of the crew, it is stated that the pirate who navigated the ship whilst she was under their control, said to have been actually accommodated previons to the attack in tho pilot's cabin.

Regarding the first clase accommoda tion, which is in front of the grill on the top deck, the state rooms are placed that it would be impossible "for their occupants to take part in an attack These state rooms are barred aff from the deck by a grill, and this grill, it is understood, was locked when the piracy took place. There is, however, on the same deck in front of the main grill one four, berth room. This room is quito distinct from the state rocras and is situated outside the grill which leads to the state rooms, It adjoins the Chief.

During the interval refreshments were served on the lawn. At the conclusion of the sporta Mrs. Flatcher distributed the prizes and Mr. E. Ralphs, Inspector of Schocks, thanked both host and hostess for the kind way in which they had entertained them and for the excellent manner in which the Hon. Mr. Fletcher and managed the sports. He cult for cheers for both host and hostess

This is interesting in view of the established fact that the pirates of the Sun Ning came on board the vessel in Hongkong as early ne 11 am. on the day of the piracy, which was about soven hours before the vessel sailed from. Hong- kong. It is stated that they made several visits to the chip before embarking Passengers and it is probably during thes early visits that they brought their arms on beard. It was during one of these early visits that they hooked necem
