The subject of this article is not the lapses from decorum or arthodoxy of my awn profession. Hot weather and tho., August holidaye have suggested a far less serious topic-the slips of scribes and compositors. No disrespect is intended to the skilful and excellent workmen who have to cope with our not always legible handwriting. It is very rarely that they confess themselves beaten ha manu script and then it is the author, not the. .compositor, who enght to be ashamed al bitself.
I was once the editor of a volume of essays, and was not surprised when the publisher sent lack one of them (not mite) as legible.
