Surveyor General's Office,

Victoria, 11th March, 1850.

Sir,

In accordance with instructions contained in your letter and the documents submitted to His Excellency the Governor by the Post Master, F. Hayland, Esqre, &c.,

I have to report upon

With regard to Mr Hayland being a compulsory tenant I can say nothing, for I was in no way cognizant of the terms under which the Post Master became the tenant; merely put him in possession as stated in January 1846, and the building has been under my charge ever since, to perform the necessary repairs, and the general supervision demanded upon all Government property.

The Colonial Secretary.

Letter from Mr Hyland to the Colonial Secretary, setting forth the reasons which he founds his claim to compensation for the destruction of his property by the falling of the Post office ceiling, Report attached regarding the defective construction of that Building. 6th March, 1850
