Unto His Excellency Sir Henry Pottinger Knight Grand Cross of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath Governor of Hongkong &c &c &c
The Humble Petition of Solomon Iscure, of the said Colony, Merchant
Sheweth,
That on the 15th instant (or thereabouts) your Petitioner received a letter from the Colonial Office (of the above date) intimating that at the expiration of Six Months from date of said letter Your Petitioner's House and Godown being required to carry into effect the new Plan of the town, are to be removed.
That your Petitioner having so long since bonded his claim on the building of said Premises sent in a memorial to His Excellency Major General Sir Henry Pottinger then Governor of the Colony stating the particulars of his distress in Consequence of the removal of his premises to be and which memorial your Petitioner beg to refer Your Excellency to:
That to this day your Petitioner, and having previous to the receipt of the letter from the Land Office entered into arrangements with an American firm, for the rent of a House to a period of Twelve Months certain, commencing from 1st February last.
That Your Petitioner will be put to considerable inconvenience if the Property in question is taken away at the same time; being full of all description of Goods, Your Petitioner is unable to find other suitable Godowns to remove the same to, and will be compelled to suffer great loss.
That at the termination of the time allotted for the removal of the Premises Your Petitioner humbly prays that Your Excellency will be pleased to take into consideration his unpleasant situation and grant him further time to remove his property at Your Petitioner's convenience.
