from the blend of this office, and I therefore
venture to refer your Lordship to it, from which the
essential merits of the claim will be at once apparent; but
briefly it may be said, that it would
• shewing that the
Mr. Burd's own committee appointed to estimate his Premises valued them at $12,900, that he received $8,000
in money, with the value of certain materials estimated at $1,900 more, and that $200, one
Year's Rent, was remitted: – in all $10,100;
was
also given
and that a piece of Ground was chosen by Mr. Burd himself. In this lot of ground I am further informed Mr. Burd erected 5 Houses, of which he has had
the usufruct for four years nor do I find from the Records that Mr. Burd made objection to this arrangement at the period when it was entered into between himself
and my
Predecessor; indeed, on
the
contrary
it appears from his letter of the 3rd September
1844, annexed to the Memorial, to have been
satisfied with the terms proposed, and all of
which were
duly
subsequently fulfilled on the part of
the Government.
