At Quarry Bay the overhead wires came down and several people electrocuted. Corrugated iron was strip- ped off the works and was a source of danger as it was hurled through the air.
"The Heangshan (Capt. Thomas) on her way down to Hongkong en Saturday. morning turned back for a time in con- sequence of the weather, and, as a con spence, did not arrive until just before
po, instead of at 2 pan.
The epulse Bay Hotel escaped "seri- ons binage, but practically the whole of the matshers on the tuthing beach were brought down. The Hongkong" Hotel motor busses were running to Repulse Bay yesterday, using the lower road.
Some of the junks sheltering at Cause- way Bay were crist on to the roadway. where they remaineil, high and dry, the occupants meanwhile, cooking their meals, on board and comporting themselves generally as though nothing unusual bad happened.
The water came over the Prayas and the waves broke over the Cenotaph on posite the Hongkong Clab. The whole length of Connaught Road was stripped of its car surface and resembled a road Lin course of construction before the
steam-roller has passed over it.

A number of vessels arrived in port yesterday, but with the exceptions of the O.P.C. . Hornshell, and the American steamer Jusrfing, all of thego weathered & Co, Manufacturing and Refracting the storm easily, some missing the gule Opticians, the most competent optiral· altogether.
Colony-loented in 53, Queen's Road Central—AUST.
The Horufill received a very severe buffeting, and some of her upperworks were carried away; otherwise the is not Ivully damaged.
With the Jijian, however, things were different. A Daily Pres representative | who boarded the vessei yesterday found a scene of chaos and disorder. The Jourfing is a small tramp, manned by Filipinos, offered by Spaniards, register e at Manila, and tying the flag of the U.S.A When she ran into the typhoon slie was on her way from Manila to Angasaki, with a ̈eargo of eal, and was. įjust off Lima island. Huge waves broke Fover her bows, a terrific wind was blow. ling, the ship was lashed with rain. It be came apparent that they were in for a bad typhoon, and the boat was headed for the! leeward side of Lima Island. Here she anchored, but it was soon found that the protection afforded by the island was inadequate, and the vessel dragged her anchor. Meanwhile the wind was play ing havoc with the boat's fittings," and when a boat was enrries away it was decided to run for Hongkong, afthongh this Colony was not her destiantion.
The journey whe a terribly anxious öné. and had it not been for the fact that the cargo was heavy and kept the boat steady, there would probably be one more wreck to be added to the list already attributable to the typhoon.
**
Sean broke over the steamer's bows and stern, and one gust of wind worse than the rest made a partial wreck of, the bridge; the work of destruction was soon completed. The compass was smashed, the deckhouse washed overboard railways twisted like wire, and the companion-way earried way. The officer on the bridge escaped by a miracle. The vessel rolled and pitched heavily, and each succeeding wave carried on the damage begun by its fororunners Cabin doors were mashed, porta broken, und everything movable carried away. The officers quarters under the poop deck were completely wrecked. All the officers cabing" were wathed away, nnd what was formerly the saloon now presert, a, seene of "indescrib. áble wreckage. The worst disaster was when the rudder enrried away, and a new one had to he improvised.
The steamer's dicks yesterday were a mass of tangled cordage, smashed wood work, broken glass, and twisted rails. Over all, a flock of turkeys, liberated from their crates by the seas, wandered at will enjoying their new found liberty.
When repairs have been elected the Fourfing will continue her voyage, Re- markable to relito, no-one was washed orerboard.
