SUPPRESSION OF CAPITALISM.

Mr. John Scurr (London), on behalf of the 1L.P., proposed a resolution de- claring that the supreme object of the Labour Party should be the suppression of enpitalismi by the Socialist common- wealth, and that this object distinguished the Labour Party fundamentally from both the Conservativa and Liberal Parties. Mr. Scurr suggested that the Socialist basis of the party should be put beyond question. The Chairman said the resolu tion only as out what was already in the constitution, to which evory inher

of the party was subject. It added no- thing. He hoped it would not be thought that conference was considering the question for the first time. The resolu tion was adopted.

THE MONARCHY..

He said that progress was very slow and superstitution died very hard. Darwin once said that in the Пи organism Woro some cighty obsolete organs, and in this intelligent age people still carried muscots. (Laugh" ter). He wanted to ask what would be the attitude of the party to the Monarchy when it came into power, (Laughter.):

Mr. G... Lansbury, MP, said he was a Republican. and always advocated Re publicanist, bet on behalf of the execu Live he had to say that its members were very strongly divided on the subject of the resolution. Why should they "Tool about with a question which was of no earthly importance and which would be settled whenever they were able to nettic economic conditions? Years ago he used to think that the Monarch and nobility made the people poor. He had learnt since that the capitalist system was res ponsible. He had sat at the same table, na Prince and at the same table as a Queen, and be bad at behind two Princes at Football match. They were just constion clay like "overybody else. Every member of the Labour Party, whe ther trade unionist, Socialist, or Com munist, took the same oath at the table of the House of Commons. They swore to uphold the Constitution as by law ratablished. Perhaps one of the days
