To His Excellency

Samuel George Bonham, Esq., C.B.,

Governor of the Colony of Hongkong.

The Memorial of

Joseph Charles Cox, Chief Clerk of the Colonial Treasury - humbly showeth -

That your Memorialist has now reached the advanced age of 65 years, having served 5 years in Hongkong, and upwards of 23 years in the office of Chief Clerk without ever having been absent from that office, except 8 days, which he necessarily passed out of the Island for the recruiting of his health. That Your Memorialist is now in a very bad state of health, and is advised that his life would be in danger should he remain during the ensuing summer in the Colony, by the Certificate of the Colonial Surgeon, which Your Memorialist begs to forward herewith, and

prays that the leave of absence for 15 Months may be granted as may appear.
