Your Lordship, and that I should therefore forward his Memorial for your Lordship's
Consideration.

20
May,

Is Comclate, as stated by himself, is stricken in years, has been employed in the Colonial Treasury since the 19th March, 1845, and has, so far as I am aware, given satisfaction to his immediate superior in office. He is well acquainted with the Italian and French languages, and considering his advanced age, it would I think be desirable for the interests of the Government, could he be employed where these requirements would prove useful. Should your Lordship see fit not to send Mr Comclate back to Hongkong, I shall be able to make some reduction in the expenses of the department to which he is now attached, without affecting its general efficiency.

Mr Comclate has received Salary at the rate of £405 per Annum up to the 27th instant, as attested in the accompanying certificate from the Colonial Treasurer, and according to the Colonial Regulations he is entitled to draw half of that sum whilst he remains absent from this post.

I have the honour to be,
With the highest respect,
Your Lordship's,
Most obedient
Humble Servant
