Thero is in Bhutia Basti, Darjeeling, a large Tibetan Monastery known as the Sangs Shetrupling Monastery, a queer looking edifice, probably as old as Darjeeling itself, decorated with Hons rampant and dragons with gaping mouths and contorted bodies, defending its doors or ornamenting its walls. Immediately in front of the Monastery is a small shrine, beflagged and decorated with votive offerings of every description It was to this shrine that the worshippers Hocked at the conclusion of the dance to make their offerings or receive various talianans for the coming year,-for the Devil Dance (hell on February 14th) is nothing more than an inaugural coremony, welcom ing the Tibetan New Year and expelling the old.
