VANDALISM IN PEKING. PARLIAMENT AND THE IMPERIAL PALACE
In the course of a recent leading article the Peling and Tienten Tinta says:
The Speaker of the Lower House, 20 cording to uncontradicted reports which: have appeared in the Chinese Press dur ing the past ten days, recently disting wished himself by participating in a unseemly brawl, while engaged in playing an illegal game, in a well-known Peking restaurant. The redoubtable Mr. Wo Ching Lien is reported to have become dissatised with the illumination of the room" in which he and friends were engaged in playing mahjoong, and, fail ing to secure a lamp of sufficient bril liancy, is alleged to have ordered some of bis attendants to assault the restaurant staff. Thirteen casualties are reported to have been sustained by the latter and con- siderable damage done to the furniture, before the police intervened, and-compel led the restaurant manager to kow-law to the originator of the trouble! Nothing farther has been heard, of course, of the proposed Bill for the Speaker's punish- ment for bringing “a stain on the good name (nie.) of the members of Parlia! ment as a whole”.
