An interesting political appointment is that of Mr. F. C. Thomson, the member for South Aberdeen, as the Scottish Lord Commissioner of the Treasury. The ac- ceptance of a Government position by Mr. Thomson materially strengthens the Scot tish element in the Administration. It comes fitly after the appointment of Captain Elliot, who has succeeded Mr Kidd as Under Secretary to the Scottish Board of Health. The Committee of the Scottish National War Memorial have approved of sketches prepared by Sir Roert Lorimer of alter native plans for the Edinburgh Castle scheme. It is proposed that "Billings Buildings" ahall be transformed into a hall of Honour, with the addition of an apse, in which will be placed the Boil of Honour containing the names of those who fell in the Great War.
